Statement relating to Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH)
EU and UK REACH
UK REACH is a regulation which regulates how chemicals placed on the GB market are used and stored and applies to the majority of chemical substances that are manufactured in or imported into Great Britain (GB) (England, Scotland, Wales). This can be:
- A substance on its own
- A substance in a mixture, for example ink or paint
- A substance that makes up an 'article' - an object that is produced with a special shape, surface or design, for example a car, furniture or clothes.
REACH stands for registration, evaluation, authorisation and restriction of chemicals.
Under the European Union (Withdrawal) Act 2018, the EU REACH Regulation was brought into UK law on 1 January 2021 and is known as UK REACH. REACH, and related legislation, were replicated in the UK with the changes needed to make it operable in a domestic context. The key principles of the EU REACH Regulation were retained in UK REACH.
Under the terms of the Northern Ireland Protocol, EU REACH continues to apply in Northern Ireland. The UK REACH and the EU REACH regulations operate independently from each other. (together known as the “Reach Regulations”)
Obligations under EU and UK REACH
The Barcode Warehouse Limited is neither a manufacturer nor importer of chemical substances and, having considered the Reach Regulations, considers itself as a “Downstream User”. Therefore, we are not obliged to undertake pre-registration relating to any substances ourselves.
Nevertheless, we are aware of the implications and our responsibilities under the Reach Regulations and shall:
- handle any such chemical substances covered by the Reach Regulations in a safe way;
- ensure that any information on risk management is shared throughout our supply chain accordingly; and
- periodically check with all our suppliers to make sure that those who qualify are registered.
We have not received any communication concerning registration issues from any of our suppliers, which may affect any current or future registration, where such suppliers require registration under the Reach Regulations.
If we do receive any such information that might affect any product supplied to any of our Customers, we will contact any such affected Customers as necessary.
The Reach Regulations also include a list of Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC).
We have confirmation from all of our suppliers that raw materials supplied to The Barcode Warehouse Limited do not knowingly contain in a concentration above 0.1% weight by weight (w/w) any SVHC in the Candidate List published under EU or UK REACH Regulations.
